Celebrating World Day for Grandparents

Caring for grandparents and the elderly is not only a duty of gratitude and affection, but a necessity for building a more humane and fraternal society. The Holy Father invites us to recognize their value in transmitting faith and hope to the new generations and to do so in a way that is not a one-time event, rather a permanent one.

A Plenary Indulgence offered

A Plenary Indulgence is granted to the faithful who will participate during the solemn celebration that Pope Francis will preside over in St. Peter’s Basilica, on 23 July 2023, as well as to all those who attend one of the various liturgical celebrations and initiatives, which will be held throughout the world, on the occasion of the Third World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. The same Plenary Indulgence is extended to those who visit the elderly and sick, as well as those unable to leave their homes, according to the conditions cited within the Decree (Make a Confession, receive the Eucharist and pray for the intentions of the Pope within one week of fulfilling the requirements for this indulgence). Likewise, the Plenary Indulgence may also be applied for the repose of souls in Purgatory.

School Board Trustee Position

The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board is seeking candidates for the position of Catholic Trustee to fill a Board vacancy and represent separate school ratepayers for the City of Peterborough. The appointed trustee will serve with the PVNC Catholic District School Board until the end of the current term of office in November 2026. Candidates do not have to reside within the city of Peterborough to apply!

Annual Walking Pilgrimage - In the Footsteps of the Holy Canadian Martyrs

August 13 to 19, 2023.

Departs from St Joseph's Church, Powassan at 1pm on August 13. The 130 km walk will end after 5 days at Holy Family Church, Britt where pilgrims will venerate the relics of the Martyrs. The Pilgrimage will conclude with Mass on the morning of August 19th.
