ANNOUNCEMENT: No mention of school food in Federal Budget 2023

The Coalition for Healthy School Food is disappointed that there was no funding for school food in Budget 2023 from the federal government. Combined with the lack of funding increases in many recent provincial budgets, school food programs across Canada will continue to struggle to meet growing demands this year.

Over the next year, the Coalition looks forward to working with the Government of Canada to develop a National School Food Policy and an implementation plan to ensure successful rollout of a School Food Program for Canada as pledged in two federal election platforms in 2021 and as included in two Ministerial mandate letters.

Great Big Crunch Results Are In

The Great Big Crunch is a Canada-wide movement in which students, teachers, parents and others passionate about food join the food movement and crunch into apples (or other crunchy foods) to make noise for healthy school food.

This year, more than 20,000 crunches  were registered through the month of March in Nova Scotia. That's 13.5% of the total crunches in Canada, despite Nova Scotia having only 2.6% of the population!
