| CRPS - Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (aka Type 1 CRPS) is a term to describe conditions that arise from trauma to soft tissues, such as a crush injury. The Sympathetic Nervous System, which controls heart rate, blood pressure and blood flow, is adverse affected by the trauma and SNS ends up getting confused, mixed signals. Therefore this branch of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) fails to regulate these vital regulatory mechanisms. Symptoms include redness, swelling, aching, throbbing, burning, cold, and, of course pain. The pain is often greatly heightened in relation to the type of injury sustained. Diagnosis may not be clearly made for some time after the injury. The condition is often difficult to treat and symptoms can continue for years, making the daily life of the patient extremely difficult to bear. So when this case study came into the MSTR® office, it really caught our attention: |

Kate, 49 years old, had 4 surgeries in 4 years on her left elbow. The nerve was severed and she developed RDS. The scar affected her day and night. She couldn't bear for clothing to touch her skin due to the high sensitivity. She also experienced pins and needles (paresthesia) in her arm. Various methods to alleviate the pain were tried, including ketamine cream and a nerve block injection in her neck. Kate said her arm felt like it was alien to her. After 3 MSTR® sessions Kate can now wear long sleeved shirts. Pain and sensitivity is greatly reduced and she feels as if her arm is now part of her body. For those suffering day and night with RDS, this is an amazing result and gives hope to those affected by this relentless and extremely painful problem. Submitted by Maria Unger, CA, USA. |
