Please keep in your thoughts and prayers...

Those who have died, especially...

and those who are sick and those who love and minister to them especially...

Agnes Young, Annie Maas, Francesco Petronio Jr., Jason Lanteigne, Jennifer Claus, Jessica Fitzpatrick, Marie-Thérèse Nicolas, Mary Ellen Blackmore, Michael Feeley,

Pauline Schumacher, Sam Cadamuro, Sonja Schryer, Stu Downs and Vaughan Tuck

Jesus, Our Lord, we ask you to have mercy on all who are sick. Give them your strength and love and help them carry this cross with faith. May their sufferings be one with yours, overcome the power of evil and lead others to our Father in Heaven.

Lord Jesus, hear our prayer, for you are Lord forever and ever. Amen.

Hunger in Somalia: a very worrying situation

Our humanitarian aid programs officer, Dominique Godbout, and our director of international programs, Stéphane Vinhas, were in Somalia to visit our partners to take stock of the situation.

To learn about the current context and the displaced populations and to discover our ongoing and planned programming, join our pan-Canadian webinar on Wednesday, June 21 at 7 p.m. (ET). Live English and French interpretation will be available.

We also invite you to read Godbout’s account of her visit, Saving lives, sowing hope: field notes from Somalia, to learn more about our work.

New project for women and democracy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Development and Peace ― Caritas Canada is proud to announce the launch of a new project focused on women and democracy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The six-year Electoral Education and Inclusive Governance Program in the DRC (EEGIR, for its French acronym) is financed by Global Affairs Canada.

The EEGIR program will focus on improving inclusive governance; reducing the educational, cultural and economic barriers faced by women; and mobilizing women to increase their participation in elections and political life.

Meeting the Pope, and other highlights from the Caritas Internationalis general assembly

Caritas Internationalis held its 22nd General Assembly in Rome from May 11 to 16 under the theme, Building New Paths of Fraternity. Over 400 delegates from around the world elected a new president, secretary general, vice-president and treasurer.

Don’t miss the report from youth programs officer Selina Hunt and British Columbia and Yukon animator Jeremy Laurie, who share their experiences, their impressions and their euphoria at the assembly.

“From the very first day of the general assembly, a high bar was set―an audience with Pope Francis! That excitement and feeling of having the privilege to be part of a monumental assembly continued through the week.”

Bolivia: five inspiring, long-standing partners

Development and Peace ― Caritas Canada has had a presence in Bolivia for over 30 years. Over this time, we have seen our work with local organizations produce results because our partners have remained steadfast in their service of the Bolivian people. This is what our Latin America programs officer Normand Comte has gathered. After years of collaboration; 12 days of travel; many hours on the road; visits with seven communities; and meetings with five partners and people reached by our projects, Comte recounts his observations.

See the "Instrumentum Laboris" for the first session of the Synod in October

Image description

The Instrumentum Laboris is not a document of the Holy See, written at a desk, but of the whole Church, in which we are all co-authors. It is the fruit of a Church experience, of a journey in which we have all learned more by walking together and questioning ourselves on the meaning of this experience. The Instrumentum Laboris is an opportunity for the entire People of God to continue the journey that has begun, and an opportunity to involve those who have not been involved so far.

Studying the feasibility of a Catholic private school

in Oshawa

Image description

Did you know that a new private Catholic school is looking to open in central Oshawa? Would you like to support this endevour through prayer? Do you have children or grandchildren that might be interested in attending? To show interest, or request additional information, please visit bit.ly/SacredHeartA or email [email protected].

This survey is important, as it will clearly determine the level of support for and interest in this independent Catholic school model and will inform our decision as whether there is enough critical mass to push forward the project. Thanks.

Put your empties to good use

Image description

Each year, the Knights of Columbus give thousands of dollars away to different charities and special needs. Much of what is given comes from an ongoing bottle collection program that everyone can participate in.

Knowing how this program helps many, the Knights of Columbus are grateful to all those who support this effort especially during the challenges of the past year when some traditional sources of revenue have been interrupted. A single bottle may not seem like a lot, but every bit of assistance helps sponsor worthy causes.

Empties can be put into the

collection box found at the rear of

our church beside the stairs

Vivat Jesus and God Bless.
