Lock-On is a videogame developed by Tatsumi and released to North American arcades by Data East in 1986. The game is an arcade-action flight-simulator with a fixed course trajectory path through branching stages. Gameplay involves shooting futuristically-themed air and ground targets while "locking-on" to enemies to fire missiles. Lock-On is controlled with a yoke-style flight controller.

NVM's Lock-On arcade is grounded for now and will definitely take some time and tune-ups to hit peak performance. It'll be ready to fly the open skies again at some point in the future - but in the meantime be sure to check out some of NVM's other flight-themed arcade games like Atari's Star Wars!

Super Mario World is a videogame developed by Nintendo and released for the Super Nintendo in 1991 as a launch title. Many familiar hallmarks of the Mario series remain, but there are also several new additions in Mario's first 16-bit outing. Here's just a few of them:
First, there are many secret "exits" (96 in total!) along with shortcuts leading to special areas. Second, there are "Switch Palaces" that activate different colored blocks within stages that would otherwise be transparent and unusable. Third, new power-ups for Mario and, of course, the addition of Yoshi as a rideable companion.

There's a lot more to explore with Super Mario World, but suffice it to say that the colorful sprites, overworld, challenging platformer stages, and novel character designs proved to be a winning combination. The game sold well and was later included in Super Nintendo console bundles as a pack-in game.

One of NVM's newest acquisitions takes us all the way back to 1969! Computer Football is a matrix football game played on a board with indicator lights that detail success of plays. How is it "computer" football? According to the instructions, the game uses "a binary readout device operating on the same principal as computers" that gives a basic yes or no response to selected plays. Less than ten years later players would enjoy a handheld take on the game with Mattel's Electronic Football (1977)!

Keep at it, players!

The Super Game Boy 2 (1998) is a peripheral for the Super Famicom that allows Game Boy cartridges to be played on the system. This version of the Super Game Boy was never released outside Japan and has two major differences compared to the original. The first is the more colorful clear blue casing along with eight new screen borders for games. The second - and most important for those who like things precise - is that the games run at the exact speed of the Game Boy (the original Super Game Boy ran games and audio 2.4% faster).

    We can ALWAYS use help!

Monetary donations are always appreciated as there are significant costs involved in managing, maintaining, building and displaying a collection as large as the NVM archive.

Even if you can't help monetarily, we are always looking for games and consoles to add to our library. Due to the highly interactive nature of the museum, systems go down all the time and are in need of replacement or repair parts. If you have any unused consoles, computers or games around the house, please drop them off at the museum or email us at [email protected] and we'll give them a good home!
