Hi again - for the first time in 2023!
I'm keen to bring news of my latest two reprints for you. I admit, I was slacking a little in January - I had hoped to get them both out in that month. But illness - and life - slowed me down so I'm a little late. Back to speed now though!
First was J.C. Lenehan's The Tunnel Mystery which is a great fun adventure with a jewel theft, murder, two romances, a great schoolboy witness and all sorts of complications and characters to colour the page. I must admit, I love the cover - it's from a very drab vintage postcard that a little fettling helped bring out some colour and warmth.
The Tunnel Mystery was published in 1929 and is still entertaining. Very enjoyable and available now.
The other is only available in the US due to copyright and is a little project of my own - Glory Adair and the Twenty-First Burr. It's a character-driven story about the untimely death of a family patriarch - but more importantly it's about the past events leading to this moment - and the people who populate them. As well as a professional detective, Burnville, we have a colourful nurse, Glory Adair, who uses palmistry to run her own investigation. The cast is fascinating, the Canadian/US settings exciting and the writing is top notch and really entertaining.
I do like the cover but am the first to admit it's a departure for us. I'm not even sure where it came from - I just went with it. The base image is from an 1887 ad for a tobacco company! (Obviously 'MURDER' wasn't on it then! I replaced the original 'HEALTH')
The only thing we didn't like about the book was it's original title - The Twenty-First Burr. I added Glory to bring a little colour. Again, being first published in 1922 makes it available in the US but nowhere else, unfortunately. (Although I notice Amz has listed it in the UK for some reason - I've asked them to take it down.)
Until next time,
Jon
