In a recent civil jury trial, Eric and Connor won a $5.2 Million Verdict for the plaintiff (Lisa Kozy) against the defendant (County of Orange) in the Orange County Superior Court. As the result of a 2019 car collision, the jury awarded Eric's client, Lisa Kozy, one of the largest verdicts in California for a spine injury victim. The trial lasted six days, after nearly three years of litigation and Covid related delays. Ms. Kozy endured three neck surgeries, from which she is still recuperating, and was awarded this significant but fair sum to cover her past and future medical expenses and for the pain and effects the pain has had on her life. The last settlement offer by the County of Orange was only $150,000. |

| Chasing Down the Northern Lights: Pamela's BIG 6-0! |

In October, Eric and Pamela celebrated her BIG 6-0 with a bucket list excursion to Norway chasing down the Northern Lights. To describe the Northern Lights as simply spectacular doesn't seem enough. In November, Pamela joined fellow SUPER TRIAL LAWYERS and ABOTA members as panelist passionate about women helping women, and eliminating bias in the practice of law - all bias, not just gender bias. With about 40 in attendance at the Arts Hotel in Costa Mesa, the panel discussed how to gain litigation experience, practice tips and insights. Says Pamela, “As a woman litigator, juggling family and law for the past 27 years, I was pleased to speak to this group of women lawyers and hopefully impart some wisdom and tips on doing both successfully.” This luncheon is part of an outreach program to recruit more qualified women and minority lawyers to ABOTA.

| Pamela Elected as ABOTA Foundation Trustee

Recently, the Fellows of the ABOTA Foundation voted to elect Pamela
as one of five new Foundation Trustees to serve a three-year term beginning on Jan. 1, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2025. Like Pamela, the four other candidates elected have reached the status of Life Fellow or above for a three-year term. Pamela (Orange County Chapter) joins other new trustees Hilary C. Banker -Buffalo Chapter, Craig M. Peters - San Francisco Chapter, Jill M. Webb - Illinois Chapter, and Marquette W. Wolf - Dallas Chapter. Congratulations to all! |

An alumnus of Western State College of Law, Eric participated in The Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles Alumni Panel on November 7th on campus. As part of a law student outreach event, Eric spoke about what it means to be a Consumer Attorney and how to protect the public. Students benefited from the opportunity to interact with the panel regarding their profession. Says Eric, “I find it rewarding to be able to relate my experiences to law students who are still unsure what area of law they want to practice. Providing some valuable advice may help them make the right choices early in their career." |

| Eric Invited to Board: OCBA Charitable Fund |

In January 2023, Eric will take a seat at the table as a newly appointed board member for the Orange County Bar Association Charitable Fund. Says Eric," I look forward to joining other board members and continuing the great work of the OCBA's Charitable Fund. The philanthropic arm of the Orange County Bar Association, the Charitable Fund is responsible for the allocation of funds that provide organizations and programs with the resources needed to enhance the system of justice and promote equal justice for all.

| On December 2nd, Eric, along with past ABOTA National President, Ed Nevin, are co-trying a traumatic brain injury case in the Contra Costa Superior Court. Representing a physician who was involved in a fairly minor car accident, Eric and Ed will be arguing that the accident has resulted in life-long consequences for their client.

Evelia Sanchez is a 26+ year employee who is a legal assistant/bookkeeper primarily responsible for issuing checks, calendaring, and coordinating phone and in-person conferences with clients and experts. She is responsible for all e-flings, in State and Federal courts throughout California. Evelia began working with the Traut Firm in 1989, and after a few short months, became a legal assistant to the firm, and later, to Eric Traut. She continues to be an essential member of the team, working on many of the high profile, wrongful death, and personal injury cases handled by the firm. She is a graduate of Santa Ana College. |
