First Communion Preparation

Parents are welcome to begin preparing their children, in grades two or above, for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion. This year, preparation takes place in a mixed form: online supported by a couple in person retreats. Four intakes a year allows families to prepare at a time that best fits their busy lives.

Most of the work is outdoors: gardening, painting, general cleanup.

Entering into Truth and Reconciliation

Friday, October 21st at 6:30pm.

October features two opportunities for all to enter into Truth and Reconciliation:

Guest speaker: Deacon Pedro of Salt and Light Media

Image description

Deacon Pedro of Salt and Light media is coming to St. Joseph Church to share his first hand experiences during the delegation of indigenous persons to Rome last April and the Pope's visit to Canada last July. He will also discuss some background into what led to these two historic events.

Hear about his experience in the church hall on Friday, October 21st at 6:30pm.

Have a question for him about Truth and Reconciliation or his experiences? Ask it here and Deacon Pedro will work to incorporate an answer into his sharing.

Online learning - 'Just get over it'

Image description

Open for everyone, the First Peoples House of Learning of Trent University will offer an online learning opportunity they've entitled, 'Just get over it'. The Diocese of Peterborough offers this for all as part of a fulfillment of the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission:

TRC #59. We call upon church parties to the Settlement Agreement to develop
ongoing education strategies to ensure that their respective congregations
learn about their church's role in colonization, the history and legacy of
residential schools, and why apologies to former residential school students,
their families, and communities were necessary.

our Catholic School Board Trustee Candidates

Having difficulty deciding which Catholic school board trustee candidate to cast your vote for? Here's some information about the candidates for this riding.

Alphonse Ainsworth

Image description

My fellow parishioners: After a 35-year career in education, I retired as Director of Education in an Ontario Catholic School Board. Married to Linda, I have 3 adult children and 5 grandchildren, 2 of whom attend PVBCCDSB schools. St. Joseph has been our parish for 14 years where I have been active in the Hospitality Ministry and elected to many leadership positions in the Knights of Columbus, including Youth Director. As a trustee, I will promote and defend Catholic education that embraces the whole child in body, mind and spirit. On October 24th, please elect me, Alphonse Ainsworth, as your English Catholic Separate school trustee on the PVNCCDSB.

Joshua Glover

I believe that God's will summoned me to run in this election- I have a strong voice, I’m good at negotiating, and I’m passionate about education. I vow to protect and uphold Catholic values in Catholic schools, and I will do so having the courage of my convictions. Please visit my website, or phone me at 905-447-1722. Thank you.

Kevin MacKenzie

My name is Kevin and I'm running for re-election in Clarington as one of two Trustees. Since becoming Catholic in 2016 I've had a desire to give back to my faith and my community. I'm an active member of St. Therese in Courtice and am the Chairperson of their Finance Committee. I'm also the current Vice Chairperson of the (PVNCCDSB) school board, Chairperson of the board's Faith and Equity Committee, and sit on CPEC (Catholic Parent Engagement Committee).
