To learn well, and to feel well and supported, students need to not be hungry and they need to not be stigmatized. That’s why school food programs work best when all students can access them and, ideally, most students want to and regularly do. In short: if we want to address hunger at school, we need to feed everyone.
We are grateful to many donors who have contributed to the Nova Scotia School Food Fund to make it easier for schools to follow best practices. And with all the members of the Coalition for Healthy School Food, we are looking forward to a federal investment in school food in the 2023 budget.
