Corteva Hawai‘i gives away pumpkins at the 9th Annual Harvest Festival

Corteva Hawai‘i participated in the 9th Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Kekaha Neighborhood Park. The fun-filled family event was started by a group of local farmers that wanted to establish an event for adults and keiki in the community. The pumpkins brought smiles to the community who enjoyed free admission, free entertainment, free rides, food booths, an educational tent, and surprises for keiki! The Corteva tent gave out free pumpkins and had a selfie station for families.

Employees from Corteva Hawai‘i volunteer and harvest cacao at Lydgate Farms

Mahalo to Lydgate Farms – a small, diversified farm on the island of Kaua’i – for allowing Corteva Hawai‘i employees to volunteer and harvest cacao in mid-November! The employees had a wonderful time. Special mahalo to Mark Stoutemyer & Will Lydgate for coordinating this awesome event!

In the summer, Corteva Hawai‘i partnered with Lydgate Farms to provide research assistance for the first approach of commercial vanilla production in Hawai‘i. Vanilla is a profitable crop with high demand, but currently, Hawai‘i produces very little because its growing methods are not commonly known and have little scientific research. Corteva is grateful to serve and collaborate with an amazing local farm like Lydgate Farms!

Annual food drives at Corteva benefit Kaua‘i food banks

Image description

In early November, the Corteva Hawai‘i team wrapped up its annual food drive to give back to Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank and Hawai‘i Foodbank Kauai! In total, they raised $1,740 and distributed 1,763 pounds of food to both food banks on Kaua‘i. We are proud of our employees for helping to support those in our community that need assistance!

Earlier in the year, Corteva Hawai‘i awarded each of the food banks with grants of $5,000 to help them with the different programs they host to help keep Kaua‘i’s people fed, especially the keiki and kupuna. Last week our team dropped off 1,503 pounds of food, including sought-after rice, and $250 in cash to Hawai‘i Foodbank Kauai and more than 260 pounds of food, primarily bags of rice, and $1,490 to Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank.

Mahalo to Yael Claussen for coordinating the successful food drive and for the staff who provided more than 1,800 meals!

Corteva Hawai‘i helps to build garden beds

at Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i Charter School

In early November, the Corteva Hawai‘i team assisted Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i Charter School with their garden beds. The team had a lot of fun helping to build the beds and giving this amazing school advice on how to manage the plants, soil, irrigation system, fertilizer, and compost. Meet Al Souza, who recently started at Corteva Hawai‘i’s Parent Seed!

Welcome Corteva Hawai‘i’s newest Waialua Parent Seed employee — maintenance coordinator Al Souza! Al started at Corteva on Oct. 31 to maintain all plant and farm equipment. Before starting his first job in agriculture, Al was a diesel mechanic supervisor for a dump truck and petroleum company.

At Corteva, he enjoys his coworker’s positive attitudes and looks forward to learning more about planting procedures and what implements to use in certain situations. When Al isn’t working, he enjoys being outdoors and watching his kids play sports on the weekend.
