Prayer Service
for the unborn

Only nine months left till Christmas!

On the feast of the Annunciation, we celebrate the moment when the Angel Gabriel announced the life found in the womb of our Blessed Mother. Join us after the Stations of the Cross on March 25th for a prayer service for the unborn.

Holy Hour with the
Icon of St. Joseph

Flowing from the Year of St. Joseph declared by Pope Francis, and inspired by his apostolic letter Patris Corde, comes our new Pilgrim Icon Program in honor of St. Joseph. This icon, seen at the front of our church this week, is traveling around the the world thanks to the Knight of Columbus.

We will celebrate a prayer service in the church with this icon at a Holy Hour on March 19th at 3:15pm. This is also the feast day of our parish and the feast day of the patron saint of Canada.

Keep in your thoughts and prayers...

Those who have died, especially...

Peter Helm, Verna Michel,
Vincent Merry , Warren McIntosh,
Ruth Lawson and George Anthony Cassar

and those who are sick, especially...

Ainsley Richmond, Annie Maas,
Pilar Viloria, Lynn Wainman,
Heather Haug, Bob Gibson and Paul Spicer

Jesus, Our Lord, we ask you to have mercy on all who are sick. Give them your strength and love and help them carry this cross with faith. May their sufferings be one with yours, overcome the power of evil and lead others to our Father in Heaven. Lord Jesus, hear our prayer, for you are Lord forever and ever. Amen.

Supporting the Ukraine...

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Peterborough reached out to the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Toronto and Eastern Canada to ask how we can help. The Eparchy has recommended that the Diocese encourage parishes and parishioners to donate and they have provided advice on how to do so. In this regard, the Diocese has made a $10,000 donation to Ukraine to help ease the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

Here's two ways you can help:

Help through the Knights of Columbus

Help provide temporary shelter, food, medical supplies, clothing, communications and religious supplies. 100% of your gift will go directly to these displaced people.

Help through the Catholic Near East Association

So far, CNEWA Canada has raised over $350,000 for Ukraine.

Pray a Novena for the Consecration of Russia and the Ukraine

The Knights of Columbus calls on members and their families to join in nine days of prayer beginning March 17. Initiated by Catholics in Ukraine, the novena leads up to the Feast of the Annunciation, on March 25th, when Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

At our church, we will participate in the Novena by offering the following prayer at Masses celebrated from now till March 25th:

God of реасе and justice, we pray for the реорlе of Ukraine today.

We pray for реaсе and the laying down of weapons.

We pray for аll those who fear for tomorrow,

that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.

We pray for those with power over war or реасе,

for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions.

Above аll, we pray for аll your precious children, at-risk and in fear,

that you would hold and protect them.

We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Реасе. Amen.

The Search

It's not too late to join!

All are welcome – Dinner included – No cost

Each session begins with a simple dinner at 5:30pm. After dinner, participants watch a video and then openly discuss the most important questions of life.

The Search is a discussion series that tackles the key questions of every human heart. Guided by Chris Stefanick and experts from multiple fields of science, medicine, psychology, art and religion, participants will examine our place in the larger story of existence.

 March 18th: Why a God?

All through human history man has looked to something outside himself for the answers to life. But, has science has disproven Him? Is our world better off without him? We talk with astrophysicists, chemists, Harvard professors, and more to make the case that it’s not only reasonable to believe in God, it’s essential if you want to have a truly amazing life.

March 25th: What's our Story

Your life is a story. Your life has a plot. Your life has purpose. Your life has value and it’s caught up in the great story of humanity. This great story, as we see it in the Scriptures, shows us the amazing love story that is God’s pursuit of man. How does each person fit into this big love story?

March 18th, 25th,

50/50 Online Raffle

In support of the Ontario Charities Foundation and the charitable works of Knights of Columbus Councils

Jackpot draw: March 31, 2022

Our church thrives and the Good News is lived out when disciples come forward to share their time and talent. As things in our parish start up again, it's a great time to consider how you may be called to serve our community. Out church has a great number of ministries to get involved in:

Altar Server, Children's Liturgy, Hospitality, Lector, Choir member, Welcome Desk, Minister of Communion in the church or to the sick, The St. Vincent de Paul Society (food bank), Development and Peace, Catholic Women's League, Knights of Columbus, Church Cleaner, Yard Care, Sacrament Preparation, Youth Group, etc...

This lent, consider checking out how you might get involved, help share the Good News and grow as a disciple.

Here's a few places where help is especially needed

Welcoming our guests

The doors of our church is where all receive their first impression of our community and how we live out the call to invite all into our worship.

Our welcome desk is not just a place to purchase religious articles, but is a centre where guests and parishioners can arrange Mass intentions, get questions answered and take further steps in their faith. However, help is needed to man this desk.

Keeping our church clean

Give thanks to God and contribute to our Sunday worship by helping keep our place of worship clean.

The church cleaning ministry serves after every Saturday morning Mass. This is one of the easiest ways to get engaged with the activities of our parish. It's a great way to get to know other members of our parish too.

Everyone is welcome, great opportunity for students to earn their community hours.

Children's Liturgy

A vibrant children’s ministry provides a community of faith for kids. Children’s liturgy brings the Bible to life in ways that children can grasp so they can come to know that God loves and cares about them.

All teaching materials will be provided with full training and support from your Pastoral Team.

St. Joe's EDGE Youth Group - Grade 5-8

Wednesday March 23rd at 6:30pm

Edge, our parish youth ministry, is for students in grades 5 through 8.

Youth meet every second Wednesday from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the church hall.

Leading up to Easter, youth will explore 'The Invitation'. Who does Jesus invite to follow him? What is the cost of following him? Where can the disciples of Jesus find strength? Through video, games and discussion, participants will explore what it means to be a disciple.

Next gatherings are: March 23rd, April 6th and 20th.

Indigenous Delegation to Rome, March 28th to April 1st

The Catholic Bishops of Canada are profoundly saddened by the residential school legacy and remain fully committed to working with Indigenous Peoples and communities across the country to support healing and reconciliation. The Canadian Catholic Bishops, Assembly of First Nations, Métis National Council, and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami are pleased to announce that the delegation to Rome to meet with Pope Francis, originally planned for December 2021, is now scheduled to take place this month.

This Lent, let’s put people and planet first

The power of mobilized citizens...

One of Development and Peace’s strengths is our ability to mobilize thousands of Canadians like you to amplify marginalized voices from the Global South. Our partners want businesses to not be able to perpetrate abuses in their countries with impunity.

That is why our People and Planet First campaign is asking you to help ensure that Canada adopts strong due diligence laws to prevent Canadian corporations from abusing human and environmental rights across their global operations.

Sign our petition for this at devp.org/act and spread the word. Thank you for supporting our campaign!

A country still in need of aid...

As the world witnesses a great tragedy unfold in the Ukraine, let us take a moment today, on the eleventh anniversary of the Syrian conflict, to remember the millions of Syrian civilians who are still suffering.

Damascus saw its first protests as part of the Arab Spring on March 15, 2011. Given the Syrian government’s subsequent use of violence against protesters, which spiralled into a war, today is considered by many to be the anniversary of the start of the current armed conflict.

As the conflict enters its second decade, fighting and attacks continue in the northeast and northwest, and millions of people are still in need of assistance.

Development and Peace has been responding to humanitarian needs on the ground since the early stages of the conflict (see our report here), committing more than $71 million to our Syria program over a decade. In 2022, we are partnering with locally based organizations providing medical support and mentoring young human rights defenders in peace-building initiatives.

Your generous donations over the years have helped more than 1.3 million woman, men and children in Syria rebuild their lives and have hope in a brighter future. Thank you!

Year of the Family Speaker Series

Presented by the Diocese of Hamilton

In Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis writes: “The Synod process allowed for an examination of the situation of families in today’s world, and thus for a broader vision and a renewed awareness of the importance of marriage and the family. The complexity of the issues that arose revealed the need for continued open discussion of a number of doctrinal, moral, spiritual, and pastoral questions (2).” Our speaker series is designed to be educational and uplifting to provide support for each person on their journey. The series is a great opportunity to learn more about oneself, but, as importantly, to take part in and become familiar other members of the Diocesan family.

Dynamic Woman of faith
