Big News for Translators and Techs!

Greetings, tech support personnel all around the world! Here's another update for you from John Wood, with the Tech Advance Help Desk!

We Have New Versions of BTT-Writer
The Development team has been very busy, and we have two new versions of BTT-Writer for you!

For Desktop

The new version of BTT-Writer for Desktop has some important improvements. First, once again, we have updated the sources so that if you're installing a new copy of Writer, you won't need to update the sources right away
Second, one of our technicians in Zimbabwe noticed that when the books of the Bible were sorted, Ezekiel was listed before Genesis. This bug, that has been around for a very long time (since the translationStudio days) has been fixed.
Another problem was being caused by some unavoidable changes to WACS. The version of git for Windows wasn't able to connect to WACS, causing headaches for many of you. BTT-Writer now installs the correct version of git to be able to connect correctly.
For Android

We also have a new version for Android. While this one doesn't have all the resources (the Google Play Store won't let us make an app that big) it does fix a problem people were having when they tried to run on newer (Android 9, 10, and 11) devices.

You can download this version here:

https://github.com/Bible-Translation-Tools/BTT-Writer-Android/releases/tag/v1.1.3%2B9 and we hope the Play Store will accept the update soon.

God is doing something new
We are very excited to announce the first release of Orature. This new software is designed to help people with both oral translations, and with recording audio versions of a written translation. We don't have space in this newsletter to talk about everything that Orature can do, but you can download a version for your computer here: https://github.com/Bible-Translation-Tools/Orature/releases/tag/v1.0.1

Hackathon
The first week in February, many of us will be gathered in Orlando to work on projects to help Bible translation go forward
One project that we'll be working on is a print server, to help our Print On Demand workshops to manage the heavy print workloads they experience. It's a big job, so please pray for us as we tackle this, and other tasks.

Next Time: Do you have a topic you'd like us to cover in the newsletter? Let us know at the Help Desk or using one of the chat programs below.

Please remember that our tech channels are for the work of Bible translation. Don't use them for covid home remedies, political discussion, or theological debate.

We don't recommend using WhatsApp because it is not secure. However, we do have several regional groups in WhatsApp. If you don't currently have one for your region, you can create a group in WhatsApp and invite the other workers in your area to join it.

We prefer Telegram because it's more secure. You can join our group on Telegram using this link: https://t.me/joinchat/Gkxa1q-oHBEYEjPQ.
