Papal Visit for Truth and Reconciliation

Image description

Earlier, the Vatican formally announced that Pope Francis will travel to Canada from July 24-29. The historic visit, focused on Indigenous healing and reconciliation, will be the fourth papal journey to Canada and the first since Saint John Paul II’s visit in 2002.

The trip is intended to be a followup to the Pope's apology offered on April 1st. But this visit from our pope won't be the end of our efforts for truth hand reconciliation.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops announced a nation-wide collective financial commitment in the amount of $30 million dollars to support healing and reconciliation initiatives for residential school survivors, their families, their communities and our Church. Our own diocese has agreed to pledge the sum of $400,000.

Our Parish is happy to contribute to these efforts for truth and reconciliation. A new group is being formed to address these issues and to see how we can grow through this process. Those interested in assisting (especially those with an indigenous, First Nations or Metis  background) are encouraged

to reach out to our pastor.

Collection for the Priests' Benefit Fund

Image description

12 May 2022

Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Diocese of Peterborough,

On behalf of the retired priests of the Diocese of Peterborough, I thank you for your ongoing generosity to our Priest Benefit Fund. This fund is the principal way that we care for priests who have retired from pastoral assignment either because of age or health concerns. Our senior priests served with dedication for many years and often still substitute in parishes when their health permits. They remain an important part of our Catholic community and your concern for them reflects both this fact and your appreciation for their priestly service.

Our Annual Parish Appeal for the Priest Benefit Fund will take place on Sunday, June 12th, and additionally, donations are accepted at parishes or online any time of the year. Knowing that these are financially challenging times for many people, we are grateful for any contribution you can make to this appeal, which is so important to the life of the Church in the Diocese of Peterborough. On behalf of all our priests – retired, planning for retirement, or still years away from it – I offer you our sincere thanks and our prayers.

Yours in Christ,

Year of the Family Speaker Series

Presented by the Diocese of Hamilton

In Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis writes: “The Synod process allowed for an examination of the situation of families in today’s world, and thus for a broader vision and a renewed awareness of the importance of marriage and the family. The complexity of the issues that arose revealed the need for continued open discussion of a number of doctrinal, moral, spiritual, and pastoral questions (2).” Our speaker series is designed to be educational and uplifting to provide support for each person on their journey. The series is a great opportunity to learn more about oneself, but, as importantly, to take part in and become familiar other members of the Diocesan family.

Thank you for

Supporting our Parish
