Correction to last week's ebulletin...

The drive-by food drive was last Saturday. There is no food drive on December 4th. However, donations to the food bank can be placed in the boxes found in the main entrance of the church.

Thanks much to all those who contributed to the food drive. Those of our community who depend on the food bank for Christmas appreciate this demonstration of Christian generosity!

Please keep in your thoughts and prayers...

those who have died, especially...

John Lawson, Aurelia Rubejes,
Anna Hall, Brigida Perater-Aguilos,
Peter Helm, Kelvin Mitchell,
Eddie Kolodziejcak & Sister Mary Connelly

and those who are sick, especially...

Kelly Smigielski, Mary Hofbauer,
Ruth Lawson, Annie Maas,
Manuel Gerna, Mia Ward,

& Bob Gibson

Jesus, Our Lord, we ask you to have mercy on all who are sick. Give them your strength and love and help them carry this cross with faith. May their sufferings be one with yours, overcome the power of evil and lead others to our Father in Heaven. Lord Jesus, hear our prayer, for you are Lord forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing images of the Baby Jesus

Image description

For decades, the Pope has blessed Baby Jesus figurines from Nativity Scenes that belong to families and the families themselves. The blessing of the image of the newborn Jesus reminds us that the Nativity scene is a school of life where we can learn the secrets of true joy.

You're invited to bring your Baby Jesus figurines to the Sunday Masses on December 11th and 12th to be blessed. When you arrive, place the figure on the table at the front of the church and it will be blessed during the Mass.

Journey through Advent with the CCCB

For the next five weeks beginning this weekend, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB ) will release a video recording reflecting on the Gospel Reading for each Sunday.

This year’s reflections are inspired by the journey of truth, healing & reconciliation, and the Indigenous Delegation traveling to Rome to meet with Pope Francis from December 17 to 20. 2021. Tune in each week for the 5-week series, 'Indigenous Peoples and the Church: Walking Together Toward Healing and Reconciliation'.

Development & Peace

Image description

This Advent, let us learn about the root causes of violence and peace and commit to supporting development so that peace can bloom. As Pope Francis tells us in Fratelli Tutti, “We can aspire to a world that provides land, housing, and work for all. This is the true path of peace.”

This Advent week celebrates peace. Everyone wants to live in peace, but how do we achieve it? What does it mean to work for peace? In the encyclical Populorum Progressio, Pope Paul VI explained that development is a new name for peace—which is where Development and Peace got its name! Catholic Social Teaching tells us that both violence and peace are related to the way our societies are organized. If people feel insecure, live in fear of each other, and can’t count on their basic necessities, peace will be hard to find. On the other hand, if people feel safe, supported by their community, and don’t have to worry about things like housing, food, or employment, peace naturally appears.

2021-2023 Synod for a Synodal Church

Image description

Pope Francis has announced that in preparation for the next Synod of Bishops, there will be a worldwide conversation in the Church or a "synod" about community, engaged participation, and the mission of evangelization. This conversation will follow a two-year path and involve the People of God - everyone, everywhere. All are invited to join in prayer as we begin this synodal conversation and unite it with the Diocesan Pastoral Planning Process.

Join the conversation!

Pope Francis hopes that the synod will inspire conversation and discussion over some topics and challenges relevant to the life of the Church in the world today. For each of the next eight weeks, all are invited to join the discussion online by contributing to three questions that change week to week.

This week's synod questions...

How do we see authority and responsibility within the Church?

How do we define the goals to be pursued, the way to achieve them, and the steps to be taken?

How do we come together to assume responsibility on the parish level and beyond?
