- Media: getting more media coverage on climate and more content for our election website
- Outreach: help us get more people involved & build our network
- Candidates’ Pledge: we are asking candidates to support the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, which was recently endorsed by Toronto City Council. Help us plan to deliver a pledge request to all candidates in the GTA.

REQUEST FOR A SPECIAL DEBATE ON CLIMATE |
|
Michael Barkley, Co-lead of the Climate Advocacy Interest Group, has asked us all to support the request for a special debate on the climate emergency. We are heading into a federal election, likely the most important we have had in our lifetime. Recently David Suzuki, Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje and Stephen Lewis wrote to the Commissioner of the Leaders' Debates Commission, David Johnston, to request an emergency debate on Climate Change. Click here to link to an article in The Tyee that summarizes their argument for the need for a debate with only one topic - The Climate Emergency. The passionate concern for our future, expressed by these four outstanding Order of Canada recipients could use a boost from ClimateFast members and subscribers. If we could all send a brief message to [email protected] supporting their request for an emergency debate maybe the Commission will act. Please send your email today!

The next Global Climate strike will take place on September 24th 2021! More details including location, timing, march route and speakers will be shared on an ongoing basis through the event page and facebook page. On the event page you can sign up to volunteer, to put up posters, act as a marshall, or hand out materials on the day. The theme of this strike is #UPROOTTHESYSTEM. Uprooting means removing by the roots, which reflects well our belief that we must address the root causes of the climate crisis to truly tackle it. By striking on September 24th under the banner #UPROOTTHESYSTEM, we recognize and raise awareness about the intersections of climate and socio-economic crises including racism, sexism, ableism, class inequality and more. By striking together, united by common struggles, we demand a rapid and fair decarbonization of our economy, for a safer, greener, more just future.
