New Diocese of Peterborough Vaccine Policy for Clergy, Staff, Vendors and Volunteers

Image description

The official position of the Catholic Church is that there is no moral or ethical problems with the COVID vaccines available to Canadians. Recognizing our call to care for the common good, Pope Francis has also encouraged all Catholics to be vaccinated.

Following the directions of the Provincial Government and under the guidance of health units and medical professionals, the Diocese of Peterborough has released a COVID Vaccination Policy for clergy, staff, vendors and volunteers. In short, all clergy, staff, vendors and volunteers must be fully vaccinated or provide a weekly negative COVID rapid test before fulfilling their ministry. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion must be fully vaccinated.

This policy is temporary and does not apply to those who come to our church to worship or pray.

Those who serve our parish as volunteers are asked to send a copy of their vaccination receipt to the parish office as soon as possible. Copies of receipts can be left in the collection or in the mail slot of the parish office (in an envelope) or a picture of a receipt can be emailed to the office.

Submitted receipts are kept confidential and will be destroyed once the policy is no longer in effect.

At a discussion last week for those who serve our parish as volunteers, Fr. Craig explained the policy further and answered questions.

Watch a recording of the discussion here

Find the policy on the COVID 19 webpage.

All Souls Day

a day to remember our dearly departed

Image description

November 2nd is All Souls Day, a day to remember and pray for those who have died.

To help our prayer, all are invited to bring pictures of deceased loved ones to the church on the weekend of October 30th and 31st. Pictures can be placed on tables at the front of the church and can be left till the following weekend.

Mass for All Souls Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 2nd at 7pm.

Pray a Novena for our deceased loved ones

One tradition Catholics have is to pray a novena, a nine-day prayer, for those who have died.

Download a novena you can pray at home

All students grades 5-8 are welcome to join...

Can you help?

Winter is coming. But before it arrives, there's much work to be done to make sure our church grounds and buildings are ready for the season.

Image description

Join on November 6th at 9am and bring some yard tools from home (shovel, rake, etc.). Most of the work is outdoors: gardening, painting, general cleanup.

Students are welcome, a great way to earn your community/volunteer hours

Lunch will be provided.

Development & Peace

Together, let’s act for the planet and its defenders!

Development and Peace’s annual People and Planet First campaign is inspired by the words of Pope Francis, who says that “a true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor” (Laudato Si’, 49). These cries are too often silenced by powerful companies that plunder resources in countries of the Global South, without regard for people’s fundamental human and environmental rights. Many such companies are Canadian.

Act to end their impunity now! Sign the petition asking the federal government to enact laws that will compel Canadian companies to conduct due diligence across their overseas operations and that will give the victims of their abuses access to justice in Canadian courts. Visit https://devp.org/en

50/50 Online Raffle

In support of the Ontario Charities Foundation and the charitable works of Knights of Columbus Councils

Jackpot draw: December 31, 2021

Early Bird Draw on November 1st

1st: $500, 2nd and 3rd: $250

Put your empties to good use

Each year, the Knights of Columbus give thousands of dollars away to different charities and special needs. Much of what is given comes from an ongoing bottle collection program that everyone can participate in.

Knowing how this program helps many, the Knights of Columbus are grateful to all those who support this effort especially during the challenges of the past year when some traditional sources of revenue have been interrupted. A single bottle may not seem like a lot, but every bit of assistance helps sponsor worthy causes.

Empties can be put into the collection box found at the rear of our church beneath the red stairs any time. Vivat Jesus and God Bless.

Message on Synod

by

+Most Reverend Bishop Miehm

Image description

Pope Francis has announced that in preparation for the next Synod of Bishops, there will be a worldwide conversation in the Church or a "synod" about community, engaged participation, and the mission of evangelization. This conversation will follow a two-year path and involve the People of God - everyone, everywhere.

Watch the October 17th Mass on Youtube

This celebration roots the synod in prayer, sacrament, and community. This Mass will also be live-streamed and available throughout the Diocese. All are invited to join in prayer as we begin this synodal conversation and unite it with the Diocesan Pastoral Planning Process.

The Diocesan Pastoral Planning Committee has launched a survey inviting the input of all the People of God and this input will be part of both the worldwide and local conversations to establish pastoral priorities within the Church.

Help out and have your say by participating in the survey
Please keep in your thoughts and prayers...

those who have died, especially...
Eileen Waite, Marion Aylward
Eddy Al-Makdesy, Kaye Ellies
Christopher Montgomery, Msgr. John Wannamaker
and Gerard van den Wildenberg

and those who are sick, especially...
Eddie Kolodziejcak, Michael Boyd Jr.
John and Ruth Lawson, Pat Pantin
and Yvonne Herdsman

Jesus, Our Lord, we ask you to have mercy on all who are sick. Give them your strength and love and help them carry this cross with faith. May their sufferings be one with yours, overcome the power of evil and lead others to our Father in Heaven. Lord Jesus, hear our prayer, for you are Lord forever and ever. Amen.
