New Diocese of Peterborough Vaccine Policy for Clergy, Staff, Vendors and Volunteers

Image description

The official position of the Catholic Church is that there is no moral or ethical problems with the COVID vaccines available to Canadians. Recognizing our call to care for the common good, Pope Francis has also encouraged all Catholics to be vaccinated.

Following the directions of the Provincial Government and under the guidance of health units and medical professionals, the Diocese of Peterborough has released a COVID Vaccination Policy for clergy, staff, vendors and volunteers. In short, all clergy, staff, vendors and volunteers must be fully vaccinated or provide a weekly negative COVID rapid test before fulfilling their ministry. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion must be fully vaccinated.

This policy is temporary and does not apply to those who come to our church to worship or pray.

Those who serve our parish as volunteers are asked to send a copy of their vaccination receipt to the parish office as soon as possible. Copies of receipts can be left in the collection or in the mail slot of the parish office (in an envelope) or a picture of a receipt can be emailed to the office.

Submitted receipts are kept confidential and will be destroyed once the policy is no longer in effect.

At a discussion this week for those who serve our parish as volunteers, Fr. Craig explained the policy further and answered questions.

Watch a recording of the discussion here

Find the policy on the COVID 19 webpage.

Message on Synod

by

+Most Reverend Bishop Miehm

Image description

Pope Francis has announced that in preparation for the next Synod of Bishops, there will be a worldwide conversation in the Church or a "synod" about community, engaged participation, and the mission of evangelization. This conversation will follow a two-year path and involve the People of God - everyone, everywhere.

The first phase of the conversation begins on October 17th at 10:30 a.m. when +Most Reverend Bishop Miehm will celebrate a Mass at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains.

Watch the Mass on Youtube

This celebration roots the synod in prayer, sacrament, and community. This Mass will also be live-streamed and available throughout the Diocese. All are invited to join in prayer as we begin this synodal conversation and unite it with the Diocesan Pastoral Planning Process.

The Diocesan Pastoral Planning Committee has launched a survey inviting the input of all the People of God and this input will be part of both the worldwide and local conversations to establish pastoral priorities within the Church.

Help out and have your say by participating in the survey

All Souls Day

November 2nd is All Souls Day, a day to remember and pray for those who have died.

To help our prayer, all are invited to bring pictures of deceased loved ones to the church on the weekend of October 30th and 31st. Pictures can be placed on tables at the front of the church and can be left till the following weekend.

Mass for All Souls Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 2nd at 7pm.

Please keep in your thoughts and prayers...

those who have died, especially...
Christopher Montgomery, Eddy Al-Makdesy,

Msgr. John Wannamaker, Eileen Waite,
Marion Aylward & Gerard van den Wildenberg

and those who are sick, especially...
Pat Pantin, John and Ruth Lawson,

Michael Boyd Jr., Mary Hofbauer,
Wynona Terry & Eddie Kolodziejcak

Jesus, Our Lord, we ask you to have mercy on all who are sick. Give them your strength and love and help them carry this cross with faith. May their sufferings be one with yours, overcome the power of evil and lead others to our Father in Heaven. Lord Jesus, hear our prayer, for you are Lord forever and ever. Amen.

Parish Work Day, November 6th

Winter is coming. But before it arrives, there's much work to be done to make sure our church grounds and buildings are ready for the season.

Can you help? Join on November 6th at 9am and bring some yard tools from home (shovel, rake, etc.). Most of the work is outdoors: gardening, painting, general cleanup.

Lunch will be provided.

Development & Peace

Let’s stand with the oppressed in their quest for recognition

Donna Modeste [email protected]

In Honduras and Cambodia, organizations supported by Development and Peace are raising the voices of communities oppressed by a model of economic development that violates their rights. The Honduran Center for the Promotion of Community Development (CEHPRODEC) trains environmental leaders to defend natural resources, the environment and human rights. In Cambodia, Development and Partnership in Action (DPA)’s mission is, in part, to enable communities affected by extractive industries to gain advocacy skills so they can organize and defend their rights.

We can support these partners by recognizing the role we can play in an unjust global system and taking action to change it. This year, the action highlighted by the People and Planet First campaign is about holding Canadian companies accountable for their operations abroad - to ensure that Canada is not complicit in the violation of the rights of our brothers and sisters. DO YOU HAVE EMPTY BOTTLES TAKING UP VALUABLE SPACE IN YOUR HOME OR GARAGE?

Image description

Put your empty bottles to good us

Each year, the Knights of Columbus give thousands of dollars away to different charities and special needs. Much of what is given comes from an ongoing bottle collection program that everyone can participate in.

Knowing how this program helps many, the Knights of Columbus are grateful to all those who support this effort especially during the challenges of the past year when some traditional sources of revenue have been interrupted. A single bottle may not seem like a lot, but every bit of assistance helps sponsor worthy causes.

Empties can be put into the collection box found at the rear of our church beneath the red stairs any time. Vivat Jesus and God Bless.
