Truth and Reconciliation

Prayer, talk
and Q & A

Image description

On Thursday, September 30th, St. Joseph Church recognizes our new holiday with a prayer service and guest speaker. At 6:30pm, join a prayer service for Truth and Reconciliation. Following the prayers, all are welcome to a presentation and discussion on how we can protect water as a human right, shared commons and sacred gift. This will help build awareness for the challenges many communities in our nation face in obtaining access to clean drinking water. The discussion will be led by Paul Baines, coordinator for the CSJ Blue Community. Participate online or in person.

Start preparing for Confirmation
Image description

Before Jesus was put to death, He promised His followers that He would send His Spirit to comfort and strengthen them. The Sacrament of Confirmation is the final Sacrament of initiation, an excellent time for a young Catholic and their family to grow in faith and renew their Catholic commitment. At St. Joseph Church, those Catholics who are in grade seven or older are invited to begin the preparation process for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Signup closes on September 30th.

Voting like a Catholic

How fortunate we are to live in a nation that gives all citizens the opportunity to participate in the governance of our country through an electoral process. The issues, politics, politicians, platforms, and campaigns can confuse and make it hard to know how to vote.

Of course, our Church doesn't dictate who anyone should vote for but does encourage all to get involved in every election. Finding it hard to decide? Here's some resources that may help:

Special Presentation for the 2021 Election

On September 20, Canadians will vote and collectively choose our next federal government. Full engagement by informed, prayerful Catholic voters discerning their vote through Gospel values and Catholic social teaching can have a tremendous influence on our country. How do we do this? How do we approach the process of determining who we will vote for in a Catholic way, as loving disciples of Christ?

This Friday, September 17th at 7pm, Sacred Heart College will host a webinar led by Brendan Steven and Matthew Marquardt, respectively the Executive Director and the President of Catholic Conscience, to discuss how Catholics can inform themselves about the relevant issues, explore Catholic social teaching and its relevance for our country today, and become energized and engaged participants in Canadian democracy as Catholic voters and citizens. After the presentation, Brendan and Matthew will answer questions. To learn more about Catholic Conscience—a lay apostolate whose mission is nurturing Catholic civic and political engagement through Catholic social teaching—visit www.CatholicConscience.org.
