INVITATION FOR DEANS AND FACULTY LEADERS

17-19 November 2021 - Unversidad Carlos III, Madrid

We are delighted to announce that the European Convention for Engineering Deans will take place in person in Madrid.

The main topic of this year tries to deal with one important issue we should address as Deans of Faculties of Engineering:

    • How to prepare our students to work in a non-defined future, where boundary conditions are continuously changing and multiple stakeholders take part?

The general objective of the ECED Conventions is to gather Deans from all over Europe to meet and discuss in depth common topics, share experiences, identify solutions for problems and build up a network with peers in different European countries.

    INVITATION

    23 September 2021, 11-13:00 CET register here

Survey of syllabus of engineering courses in higher education in Portugal that tackle Ethics will be presented. Topics, credits and contexts will be summarized and conclusions of the possible impact will be discussed.

We will discuss ways to introduce sustainability, but more specifically the SDGs, in engineering bachelor studies, and explore its effectiveness in ensuring that graduate have acquired the expected learning outcomes.

The new SEFI SIG focusing on Capacity Building proposes to all SEFI members who are interested in adapting and strengthening the competencies of trainers in engineering education, to join our first SIG workshop entitled “The pursuit of great engineering courses. Dive into a staff development program and reach the top?”. The workshop will be organized at the SEFI 2021 conference on Monday 13 September 2021 between 3.15 and 4.15 pm.

    SEFI SIG on CAPACITY BUILDING

Attractiveness of Engineering Education at SEFI2021

You are welcome to join the Attractiveness SIG meeting where a new agenda for the upcoming years will be discussed. The group has now finished a major Erasmus+ project and will prepare a new one. Your ideas, insights, and contributions are very much appreciated.

    SEFI SIG on ETHICS

July SEFI Ethics Newsletter - Value-Sensitive Design

Value-sensitive design (VSD) and other methods of design for value are key in engineering and in engineering ethics education (EEE). They are extremely supportive to increase the ethical contribution of engineers in technological developments. Good insights into these methods therefore is of quintessence importance to EEE.

    SEFI PROJECTS

A-STEP 2030 Summer School for STEM students

18, 19, 20 August 2021 - The A-STEP 2030 Erasmus + project culminated in an online Summer School hosting 30 international students in August 2021. The purpose of the Summer School was to present an innovative Learning and Teaching Activity which could support students in developing the skills needed for the future: skills such as collaboration, intercultural skills, teamwork, respecting diversity and challenging the status quo.

Last Transnational Meeting of the A-STEP 2030

The 7th Transnational Project Meeting (TMP7) of the A-STEP 2030 project took place online on the 30th of August 2021. This final meeting was not a retrospective closing meeting, on the contrary, it followed a prospective future oriented agenda. The main objective of the meeting was to find new ideas and objectives to continue to work together after a successful collaboration during the last three years. The project team decided to undertake several dissemination activities (like writing a book or organise a workshop together) as well as to look after financial support to continue the Summer School in the perspectives to set up a new European project in the coming years.

In a recent research examining the critical role of virtual twins in accelerating sustainability, SEFI’s Corporate Partner Dassault Systemes, together with Accenture, analyzed use cases where virtual twins can, or already are, modeling entire value chains as virtual experiences. Cases demonstrated how the technology can unlock combined additional benefits of USD $1.3 Trillion of economic value and 7.5 Gt CO2e emissions reductions between now and 2030.
